Tell Her About IT

January 22, 2010

Did you know the percentage of women in IT has declined by 9% since the mid-90s? This week, women in YOUR IT Community are sharing their experience and ideas.

This morning, Angela Siefer of ShinyDoor moderates a discussion at the first of three upcoming events, about using social media as a source for outreach and advocacy at the Government Social Media Conference. The panel of three experts include:

  • Laura Koprowski, Director of Public & Government Affairs at Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission
  • Christa Dickey, Community Affairs Administrator at City of Westerville and
  • Scott Varner of Ohio Department of Transportation.

Dublin Community Recreation Center hosts this all-day event about the successful use of today’s social media, which includes a panel discussion, morning and afternoon roundtable discussions, a social media clinic, and a surprise guest.

Guest speakers Dr. Martha Lindeman and Deborah Smedley, semi-finalist for the TechColumbus Innovation Award for Outstanding Woman in Technology, are rounding out next Thursday, January 28th, with two more events.

Deborah Smedley, CIO of Franklin County Department of Job and Family Services, joins BDPA’s information exchange meeting for a discussion focusing on how YOUR organization might be inadvertently creating a security threat. New Albany Public Library is where you can hear Deborah’s thoughts about IT Security, kicking off at 5:30 pm.

Dr. Martha Lindeman, president of Agile Interactions Inc., is leading a discussion on Agile hosted by the Central Ohio Agile Alliance and Quick Solutions starting at 6:00 pm.  Take away experienced insight from Dr. Lindeman, who has over 20 years of experience in user-experience design, creating, applying and training others on Agile UX methodology.

Join in the discussion with these women from YOUR IT Community who are fighting the decreasing trend of women in IT. Thanks to TechLife Columbus for pulling these events together into one calendar – check them out for other upcoming events in YOUR IT Community.
