IT Martini 19: QA or the Highway | Presented by Janova was a stellar event of firsts. It was the first time IT Martini hosted a half day conference in addition to traditional IT Martini events. It was the first time a previous IT Community Choice Winner (Janova) acted as a presenting sponsor. It was also the first time IT Martini held an event at a corporate campus: at the beautiful Tween Brands campus in New Albany.
With so many firsts, it was impossible not to get excited about the event. In fact, the Columbus IT Community was so excited that IT Martini 19 was completely sold out! With over a hundred on the waitilist, the IT Martini crew twisted arms and sweated to make more tickets available.
The event showcased the New Albany tech community and its contribution to technology working and growing in Ohio with a focus on quality assurance in software development.
Conference
The conference kicked off with keynote speaker Ben Blanquera discussing "Moving from Quality Control to Quality Assurance." Four other presentations rounded out the conference, which included: "QTP vs. Open Source Tools: When to Use Which?" by Anne Hungate and Tim Geraghty of Nationwide Insurance, "Automation and Manual Testing Together: The Benefits of a Holistic Approach" by Mark Harris of Grange Insurance, "Acceptance Test Driven Development: Implementing in Your Workplace" by Cameron Wolff of Nationwide Insurance and "Testing in the Cloud: How, When, and Why" by Ron Savoia, founder at Stratus Innovations Group.
Reception
Conference and reception attendees then travelled a beautiful, tree-lined path to the outdoor reception area for the evening's events that featured six DEMOs, a presenter led discussion on "What's the Business Value of Quality Assurance?", a charity raffle benefiting the New Albany Symphony and blue Janova-tinis. The Janova-tinis sold out and the Columbus and New Albany IT Community raised over $1,000 for the New Albany Symphony.
It was a hot night of fun and networking made bearable by electric conversation, a gentle, appreciated breeze and the cool sounds of the New Albany Symphony's student participants.
Editor's Note: Thanks to IT Community Choice Award winner Janova, the Title Sponsor for IT Martini Hour 19: QA or the Highway for bringing this event to the Columbus and New Albany IT Communities. And a big thanks to Top Shelf sponsors IBM, EdgeCase and VACO for making this event of 'firsts' so special.
